Introduction to Wildlife Rehab
(9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) IWR covers wildlife rehabilitation regulations in Ohio, handling wildlife calls, neonatal care of orphaned wildlife, zoonotic diseases, stabilization and transportation of Category I species. This class, or an equivalent, is required by the Ohio Division of Wildlife to apply for a Category I Rehabilitation Permit. Rabies Vector Species Training
(9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) RVS encompasses current regulations, status of rabies in Ohio, special considerations in RVS rehabilitation, capture and restraint, exposure protocol, testing, species information and health considerations of raccoons, skunks, foxes and bats. This workshop, or equivalent, is required by Ohio Division of Wildlife to accept rabies vector species for rehabilitation. Fluid Therapy
Fluid Therapy (8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.) This workshop will cover the when, what, why and how of fluid therapy in various species. When to consider fluid therapy, how to assess dehydration, what type of fluids to use, what route of administration to choose, what type of equipment and how to use it, restraint and administration sites, hands on practice. Reptile/Amphibian Euthanasia
Reptile/Amphibian Physiology and Euthanasia (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) This workshop is designed to help rehabilitators understand the general physiology of reptiles necessary to guide them in humane euthanasia. Reptiles are unique and a difficult species to euthanize properly without causing further harm! Dr. Rosenhagen will explain what to do, what not to do and alternatives. This is a lecture and lab.
