Emerging Infectious Diseases in Reptiles & Amphibians
Join Dr. Velez in her talk about emerging bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic diseases that are found in wild reptiles and amphibians of Ohio. Learn more on how to recognize, diagnose, and treat these diseases, including quarantine strategies to help these patients in rehabilitation settings. Some diseases that Dr. Velez will cover include: herpesvirus, ranavirus, chytridiomycosis, and snake fungal disease.
Dr. Velez is originally from Florida where she discovered her love of wildlife and rehabilitation. She attended Colorado State University for her undergraduate degree before attending Auburn University for her doctorate of veterinary medicine. After veterinary school, she pursued a wildlife and exotics specialty internship and residency at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, where she is now one of two wildlife and exotics specialists.
