About the event
To register for: Host with the Most: Common Parasites of Striped Skunks by Bonnie E. Gulas-Wroblewski, PhD.
Their omnivorous diet, diverse use of den sites and habitats, foraging behaviors, and social behaviors expose striped skunks to a wide variety of parasites. This presentation will review some of the most common ecto-and endoparasites that rehabilitators can expect to encounter in their Mephitid patients in the Midwest. Basic personal protective equipment (PPE), quarantine, decontamination, diagnostic, and treatment options will also be discussed as applicable to each parasite. We will conclude on a positive note with an exploration of how Striped Skunks’ One Health interrelationships with parasites can be leveraged for human-skunk coexistence messaging!
